Biosensors 2012

In preparation for the Biosensors World Congress next year, one of the roles of our conference department is to go to the venue and ensure that everything is in place and so Nina Cosgrove is currently in Cancun doing precisely that. She has sent the following message back and so I thought I would share it as it might prove useful/interesting when planning your own visit to Mexico.

"The Hilton is in the hotel zone as opposed to downtown - the hotel zone is a string of luxury hotels situated along the spit of sand that juts out from the mainland giving lagoon views on one side and the super azure blue waters of the Caribbean sea on the other.

The hotel looks huge as you approach it - I took a cab from the airport which cost 600 pesos (approx 30 GBP) - but inside is really well laid out. The rooms all have sea views - and what views they are. The hotel has shops, a spa, a choice of restaurants (from mexican, italian, seafood etc) and plenty of pools and beach activities.

A public bus runs from outside to downtown (for local casinos and bars), but to be honest the hotel has so much to offer there is no need to leave.

The convention centre is modern and boasts the only ballroom in Cancun with sea views. The space is flexible and there is plenty of lounge and foyer space. There is a beautiful garden terrace where we will have the welcome reception.

Everyone is very friendly and almost everyone speaks english. There is a healthy mix of tourist nationalities."

It sounds like the World Congress has another great location lined up and when the high standards of papers that are traditionally presented are coupled with a venue such as this, it looks like a winner.
