Seasonal and Interannual Trends in PM Levels and Associated Inorganic Ions in Southeastern Spain   Original Research Article

Available online 1 March 2013
Nuria Galindo, Juan Gil-Moltó, Montse Varea, Carolina Chofre, Eduardo Yubero

Highlights

► PM2.5 and PM10 levels decreased from 2004–05 to 2008–09 in southeastern Spain ► The decrease was higher in winter than in summer due to differences in meteorological conditions ► The reduction in SO2emissions affected fine (NH4)2SO4concentrations ► The fall in construction activity contributed to the decrease in PM10 Ca2+levels

2.
An improved HPLC method coupled to PCA for the identification of Tyrian purple in archaeological and historical samples   Original Research Article

Available online 26 February 2013
Ioannis Karapanagiotis, Dimitrios Mantzouris, Chris Cooksey, Mohammad S. Mubarak, Panagiotis Tsiamyrtzis

Highlights

► Colouring components of Tyrian purple are synthesized and characterized ► An improved method to extract Tyrian purple, prior to HPLC analysis, is developed ► The method is used to treat various samples (mollusan, historical, archaeological) ► Samples are analyzed using HPLC, which provide novel results ► Principal component analysis (PCA) is applied to distinguish molluscan species
